Surfing, climbing and shaping come together in Espace's latest project.

What's Line up?
They are new climbing holds due in autumn 2024, created from foam surfboards by Espace and Plume d'avion.

A stimulating project revolving around the shaper's craft, movement, gestures and materials.
. It all started with two shapers meeting, Guillaume Boiron with a 20-year experience at E-Space (Grenoble) and Laurent Gueguen creating surfboards in Plozevet (Finistère https://plumedavion.com/), and a photographer-videographer, Olivier Lefebvre (Grenoble https://www.mocean.fr/).

Beyond the classic sea-mountain, surf-climbing combination, the idea was to bring together similar worlds, build an object together, share know-how and common values based on the same logic, the logic of enthusiasts.

Sharing the pleasure of shaping, imagining unique shapes, designed in the traditional way.
A particular attention to detail, inspired by the elements and rooted in modern practice.
It took a lot of discussion to come up with an idea, to adapt to the constraints of different materials, and to bring the two ways of shaping together.

Collab Espace X Plume d'avion

The result is a hybrid shape, a climbing board-hold !
An object that makes sense in climbing and bears the mark of surfing beyond its shape alone.

A two-part mini-documentary has been produced by Olivier Lefevbre to chronicle the collaboration.
The first part of the film, shot in Brittany, recounts the discussions over the idea, the shapers meeting and the creation of the first foam matrixes.
The second part is coming soon !
The holds will ornate the walls of Grenoble's climbing gyms. A new challenge for the shapers: to come up with beautiful moves inspired by these climbing board-holds.
